Whistleblowers lawyers field barrage of threats thanks to Republican campaign to out their client

WASHINGTON, DC - JUNE 12: Donald Trump Jr., the son of U.S. President Donald Trump, leaves following a second closed-door interview with members of the Senate Intelligence Committee in the Hart Senate Office Building on Capitol Hill June 12, 2019 in Washington, DC. Trump Jr. negotiated limitations with the committee after it issued a subpoena for his testimony, which will include questions about a June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower with a Russian lawyer promising incriminating information about Hillary Clinton. “A bullet in your head.” “DIE you piece of FILTH.” Russian President Vladimir Putin “would have already shot scum like this.” That’s just a sampling of the messages the attorneys for the whistleblower on Donald Trump’s Ukraine call are getting. No wonder they’re worried about their client’s safety as Republicans from Trump himself, on down through Don Jr. and Sen. Rand Paul, press for the whistleblower’s identity to be outed.

”If the President or any Member of Congress engages in rhetoric or activity that places my client in danger, they will be held personally responsible,” said Andrew Bakaj, one of the lawyers. By then, of course, the damage will be done. In fact, the damage is being done right now, not just to this whistleblower but to the potential ones who are being reminded of the dangers they’ll face if they come forward.

That’s not stopping the Republican campaign against the whistleblower. It’s the whole point.
